What is a fixed bath shower screen?

A fixed bath shower screen is a single glass panel that attaches to your bath and wall, stopping water from splashing out when you shower. Unlike non-fixed shower screens with hinges or sliders, the toughened glass is held permanently in position.

Fixed shower screen types

We stock several fixed shower screen styles to fit different baths and bathroom looks. Our selection includes:

Straight fixed bath and shower screens: A flat panel running along your bath edge, perfect for standard rectangular baths.

Curved fixed bath and shower screens: These curve gently outwards, giving you more elbow room whilst keeping the same footprint outside the bath.

Square fixed bath and shower screens: Clean, angular panels with 90-degree edges that suit contemporary schemes.

Fixed panels with returns: A two-panel system where the main section is fixed and a return panel extends along the tap end for extra protection.

Fixed shower screen sizes

Our fixed bath shower screens stand between 1300mm and 1400mm tall. High enough to contain spray from overhead showers. Widths range from 300mm, perfect for short baths or cloakrooms, up to 1000mm for full coverage.

When choosing a fixed shower screen for your bath, measure your bath length and think about how much coverage you need. A 700mm to 800mm panel works for most standard baths, providing good protection without dominating the room. If you're tall or have a powerful shower, go for 1400mm height. The 1300mm option is better suited to bathrooms with lower ceilings.

How thick should a fixed shower screen be?

Most of our fixed glass shower screens use 6mm toughened safety glass. This thickness gives you strength without excessive weight, so the fixed shower panel stays stable during daily use while being light enough to mount securely. All our shower screens meet UK safety standards and resist chips better than standard glass.

How to fit a fixed shower screen

Installing a fixed bath screen takes about an hour with basic DIY skills. Position the metal profile against your bath rim and wall, checking it's vertical with a spirit level. Mark your drilling points first, then drill into the tiles using a masonry bit. Pilot holes stop tiles from cracking.

Secure the profile with wall plugs and screws, and apply silicone sealant along the bath edge. Next, slide the fixed panel shower screen into the channel. Most designs use a top clamping strip to hold the glass. Leave the sealant to cure for 24 hours before using.

If you’re not confident drilling into tiles or handling heavy glass, we recommend hiring a professional fitter for complete peace of mind. Or, for more help, read our blog on how to fit a shower screen.
